YOOOO. Your mental health is fire. So swaggy. Do you know anyone who talks like that? Language is interesting…
Okay, anyway. How’s your mental health doing?
So far you are mindful, you are part of a community, and your life has a healthy balance of play, fun, and relaxation. So your components of mental health are complete, right? Nah, I don’t think so.
Picture this: You are fully present, clear mind, living in the moment. You are with your friends, your community. Laughing, relaxin’, playing basketball, outside of the school. Then a couple of guys who are up to no good…sorry couldn’t resist. Say you do this everyday: you’re mindful, part of a community, having fun. What is missing?
I believe the last ingredient to mental health and wellbeing is to contribute and create. If you are present, sitting in a communal circle, and laughing all day, your mental health will not be complete. You must do something for the world and the living things you share the planet with. As a person, family member, friend, professional, employee, blogger, baker, cook-er, planner, giver, wood worker, artist, etc. etc. – You most likely already contribute and create in many ways, so this is a no-brainer.
You must grow, acquire skills and capitalize on your strengths and then use these attributes to help others and positively contribute. There are so many ways to do this. How do you help others and contribute everyday? Even if you contribute by greeting people as they ignore you on their way into Walmart, no act is insignificant.
Soooo, BOOM! Your mental health is now fully torqued. You live in the now, you are part of a community, you prioritize fun and playfulness in your life, and you contribute to make the world a better place.
