As we left off in the last article, we are starting our financial health discussion with a thought experiment that should certainly spark some feelings of gratitude – even if your life is completely in the shitter.
So…assume you have absolutely NOTHING. No job, no money, no investments, no home, no property, no phone, no computer, no car, no belongings. NOTHING. NOTHING. NOTHING dammit. You are naked sitting on a dirt plot where your future home will be. What you do have, thank god, is your physical and mental health…but you won’t have it much longer if your naked ass stays on this dirt plot, and by the way, a thunderstorm is coming.
So what do you do??? For those who have absolutely nothing, I’d say this is life’s progression:
- Lean on family, friends, and other resources.
- Get a job/earn an income.
- Get a place of your own to live.
- Make a living and help others.
If you’re already on step 4, bully for you! Your ungrateful ass should be drowning in gratitude and optimism. You are one blessed mother f&%$er.
If you’re ever feeling down, confused, overwhelmed, lost, or whatever has you in a funk, just do the thought experiment above: Pretend everything just disappeared and you had absolutely nothing, then run through 1, 2, 3, and 4. Chances are if you’re reading this you are already on step 4, so relax. Think of all the people that can’t even find comfort in step 1; they have nothing, no family, no friends and they are struggling finding the resources to help. Could you imagine?
