We have come a long way since the first blog post in June 2021. Now that she has her physical, mental, and financial health (PMF) in order, we can send Pat on her way. Good luck, Pat!
I guess that’s it…that’s life in a nutshell:
- Be Present.
- Take care of yourself, so you can
- Take care of others and make the world a healthier place.
Spend most of your precious time in the realm of number 3, that is where the nectar is.
Don’t spend too much time on number 2 once your base health is in order. Obviously, your own PMF is paramount, but beyond bare necessities, purposeful exercise and eating well, life itself should be your main source of physical, mental, and financial health. Focusing on the PMF (taking care) of others and making the world a healthier place, will fuel your own PMF.
There are countless ways to practice physical and mental health. Choose a few things that work for you, stick with it, be open to change as life demands, and try something new every now and then. Don’t get sucked into trends or be a self-help junkie.
A daily/weekly physical & mental health example:
- Wake up, warm-up, run + squats + push-ups, stretch
- 10 min meditation
- Cold shower
- Eat well and fast periodically
- Live your damn life
OR
- Wake up, drink a cup of coffee, watch the news, think about 5 things your grateful for
- Go to your physically active job
- Foam roll and stretch
- 20 min of meditation/silence/breathing exercises before bed
If the above works for you, great, stick with it. If the above is too extreme, great, do less. If it’s not enough, great, do more. Do not think you have to totally re-vamp your routine just because a new, revolutionary self-help book or a trendy somewhat-scientific study says to do so. There is no perfect way to do anything and there are endless ways to achieve the same thing. Do what you enjoy, periodically expose yourself to uncomfortable conditions (cold, heat, fasting, public speaking: don’t become a softy in our plush world) and deal with problems if/when they arise.
And again, number 1, BE PRESENT dammit. Get your head out of your ass and into the moment.
Thanks for the great article!
